Lift Chair Features

Filed under: lift chairs — liftchairs @ 1:56 pm

Standing up and sitting is something that can be taken for granted by many people. Due to injury, illness, disease, or simply age this process can be very difficult though and many people are not able to stand without having assistance from a friend, relative, or paid caretaker. This can put a strain on others and in many situations if you rely on your spouse, who is also older, you are putting them at risk of injury and putting extra wear and tear on their body. A lift chair is one device that allows a person to stand or sit easily and without any outside help.

Lift chairs have a reinforced lifting mechanism built into the base of the chair. This lifting mechanism is controlled by remote and raises and lowers the chair into the air. When the chair is fully raised, the seated individual can stand again easily and safely. It also makes it easy to sit in a very safe manner that is controlled by the speed of the chair. In addition to controlling the raising and lowering of the chair, the remote control also controls the backrest and footrest.

Many lift chairs also have other special features that make it more comfortable and practical. Infinite position lift chairs are one very special type of lift chair. They can recline into an almost horizontal sleeping position and the backrest and footrest are controlled independently of one another. This differs from most lift chairs, in which the backrest and footrest function as a single unit and do not recline to as large of a degree as do infinite position lift chairs.

Mobility Scooters: Getting Around the Town

Filed under: mobility scooters — liftchairs @ 1:50 pm

gogoelite.jpgIf you, or someone that you know, can not walk without difficulty then it may greatly restrict the places that you can go. This can make it near impossible to go some place that requires extended walking like the zoo or the mall. Even things like shopping or going to a restaurant can be very difficult. A mobility scooter is something that can be used to help this process be much easier.
Mobility scooters are personal movement devices that can be used to allow free movement around the home, outdoors, or almost any area. They are battery powered and charge by plugging into a normal household outlet. Depending on the model, some are capable of traveling over 40 miles per charge and supporting over 500 pounds.

There are a few different types of mobility scooters available. Travel scooters are scooters that are intended to be very easy to transport. They lack the range, speed, and accessories of other scooters, but can be quickly disassembled into lightweight and easy to handle pieces.

Heavy duty mobility scooters are very rugged. They support much more weight than other scooters and are better suited to be used in outdoor settings. They have larger tires, better suspension, reinforced frames, and higher ground clearance, all of which makes it supreme for use over rough outdoor terrain. They also have very large ranges and can travel at fairly fast speeds, some at over 10 miles per hour. They also have many improved and extra features. The disadvantage of this type of scooter is that they need more space to turn, so might not be as well suited for indoor situations that are very small. They also usually require that you invest in some sort of vehicle lifting device for transport.

All other scooters fall into the non-travel category. These are the middle ground and are not quite as rugged as a heavy duty scooter, but more rugged than a travel scooter. Most can be taken apart for transport, but the individual pieces will be much heavier. In many case an inexpensive hitch mounted carrier is the best and easiest choice for transport. Hitch mounted carriers can also be used for heavy duty scooters and are easily and quickly installed on vehicles with existing hitches.

Used Lift Chairs: A Good Idea?

Filed under: lift chairs — liftchairs @ 2:24 pm

Through the wonders of the wide world of the Internet, it is possible to by many things that are used. Many people find some great deals on cars and computers that have been used through online auction sites like eBay. While this can be a great way to save money, there are some things that you should probably not buy used.

A lift chair is something that you should almost never buy used. Lift chairs are recliners which are fitted with a lifting mechanism. The lifting mechanism raises the base of the chair into the air and allows for the easy transition of sitting to standing. These chairs are designed for individuals who have difficulty standing and sitting, such as those who suffer from osteoarthritis.

If you decide to buy a used lift chair you are at a major disadvantage. You have no way of knowing the condition of the device and whether it was used in the proper manner. Many people do not adhere to the stated weight capacity, which puts a good deal of strain on the device. They are also not covered by warranty and the fabric may be stained or soiled.

A new lift chair is fairly inexpensive and will provide many years of quality service. It will also be covered by an impressive manufacturers warranty when you purchase a chair made by Golden Technologies or Pride Mobility. Rather than wasting your money on something that will likely need repairs anyway, you will be much better off if you purchase a new lift chair.
