Lift Chair Information

Filed under: lift chairs — liftchairs @ 1:11 pm

It is often difficult to stand without any help from people who are mobility challenged. Things like arthritis are increasingly common as people age and can make it very difficult to stand without any help from the outside. This is one of the reasons that a lift chair is such a popular and elegant solution to this problem.

A lift chair allows an individual to be able to independently stand without any help from others. Using these chairs is simple, because most have a very easy to use hand control system. The chair actually rises up into the air and when it is fully raised, it leaves the occupant at a position where they can easily exit the chair into an upright standing position.

People who use these chairs are also treated to a much more comfortable chair than most recliners. The actual reclining part is controlled electronically, so it is very easy to find a very comfortable position.

Most of these chairs support over 250 pounds and models are available to fit individuals of all heights. Adhering to the weight and height rating is very important though, because this can directly affect the safety of the user.

Why Use a Lift Chair?

Filed under: lift chairs — liftchairs @ 1:21 pm

liftchair.jpgQuite often it becomes harder for those who are affected by arthritis to stand on their own. Further, these individuals often have difficulty sitting in a safe manner, so to solve this problem it is often necessary to rely on a friend or family member to help you. This proves to not always be practical and if you must pay for a caretaker, then the expenses can add up quickly. Also since there is not always someone there, it is sometimes necessary to plan when you stand or sit based off of when you have someone available to help you. To make it both easier and safer to get up out of a chair, a special lifting aid, called a lift chair, is commonly used.

There are many types of lifting aids, but the lift chair is probably one that most people are familiar with. These chairs are supported by a very solid lifting base, which raises the chairs frame into the air. The chair moves very slowly and steadily until it reaches its peak, at which point the chairs occupant can exit the chair in a near standing position.

There are many manufacturers of lift chairs, but the two most recognized names in the industry are Pride Mobility and Golden Technologies. Both of these companies got their start more than 20 years ago custom building lift chair recliners. Today in addition to making lift chair recliners, they both also offer a wide assortment of other quality mobility products, like electric wheelchairs.

Improving Safety with a Lift Chair

Filed under: lift chairs — liftchairs @ 3:17 pm

There are many people across the country and the world that can not stand or sit easily. Individuals often rely upon others to help them and avoid sitting down when there is no one around to help them stand. This can be highly impractical and often very inconvenient, which is why many people choose to use lift chairs.

A lift chair is a type of device that is often found in the living room. It is a very specially designed and built recliner that is used as a standing and sitting helper. The chair, by use of a remote control, is raised into the air to allow someone to safely transfer into or out of the chair. When the chair is at its highest point, it is possible for the chairs occupant to transfer their body safely to a standing position.

In addition to providing a safe and reliable way to stand, these chairs also offer all of the same functionality that a traditional recliner offers, but in most cases they do it in much better style. The chairs backrest and footrest are controlled electronically and so it is much easier for the chairs occupant to find a comfortable position. Depending on the manufacturer and options selected, they also sometimes have a built in massager and heat source.

Using a lift chair can be an excellent means of keeping a person safely standing, without the need of hiring a nurse or other personal caretaker. Finding one that you find athletically pleasing is seldom hard and if you buy it from one of the two main suppliers, Golden Technologies and Pride Mobility, you will be hard pressed to find a chair that is not comfortable.

Lift Chairs and Recline Positions

Filed under: lift chairs — liftchairs @ 12:14 pm

There are many instances where a lift chair is able to help a senior or someone who is mobility challenged live independently. This is because a lift chair is a lifting aid and enables people to exit the chair in a near-standing position.

Most lift chairs look very similar to a regular recliner. They have a recline-able backrest and an extendable footrest, but usually this is where the similarity ends. The chair is raised into the air by a powerful lifting system that is located in the base of the chair. An electric motor is used to control the backrest as well as the footrest.

Most chairs utilize a straightforward and simple control that is about the same size as a TV remote. To prevent loss and ensure that the control is always at hand, it is attached by wire to the chair. It can be configured on either side of the chair and if the chair has the optional heat and massage, this will also be operated by the control.

The degree at which a chair reclines is used to help classify the chairs. A 2-position chair is capable of reclining about 45 degrees, which puts the seated individual in a position that is perfect for watching television or reading. 3-position chairs are capable of reclining much farther to a near horizontal position. Infinite position chairs recline to the same degree as 3-position chairs, but, unlike the other two types of chairs, the footrest and backrest can be controlled independently of one another.

Seat Lifts vs. Lift Chairs

Filed under: lift chairs — liftchairs @ 3:02 pm

As we get older, sometimes our bodies aren’t able to perform our usual functions as easily as they used to. Some people develop diseases such as arthritis or osteoporosis that causes our limbs to not function properly. This can make tasks such as sitting or standing very difficult. Lift chairs and seat lifts have provided great alternatives for those who suffer these problems. Both have helped immensely but they are very different from each other.

Lift chairs easily allow a person to sit and stand. These chairs work through the base of the chair. There is an electric motor in it that move the base of the chair very steadily so that the person will not increase their chances of getting injured. They are also comfortable and come with many different options to suit your needs. It also comes in a variety of different positions, which can increase comfort for the individual.

A seat lift is very limited compared to a lift chair. It has the same basic operations as a lift chair except some aren’t able to operate as smoothly. It is a lot cheaper than a lift chair, mainly because the concentration relies more on the seat than the chair itself. The seats are cushioned but it doesn’t have the same sense of comfort as would a lift chair. Also, some seat lifts offer a bit of a spring action as opposed to a steady lift as most lift chairs offer.

Both devices are great tools to use when there are problems with sitting and standing. I honestly can’t offer the best choice for you because this is subjective. It all depends on what you are looking for, how much money you are willing to spend, and what your conditions are.

Lift Chairs and Who Needs Them

Filed under: lift chairs — liftchairs @ 1:23 pm

If you are unable to easily stand or sit, then you might find that watching TV is not so easy and that you are relying on others to help you out of your chair. This can put a strain on the person helping you and can also put them at greater risk of a fall. To help ensure that they are always able to stand or sit without assistance, many people use lift chairs.

A lift chair and a recliner share many similarities and many look identical. A lift chair, however, will have a strong lifting arm in the base of the chair, which is used to raise the chair and its occupant to a position that is easier to stand from. When the chair is fully raised, the occupant is able to either stand or sit safely and without having to have assistance from others.

While a good deal of the lift chairs available strongly favor a traditional recliner, there are several companies that offer chairs with a more modern look and feel. These contemporary designs will fit right into many living rooms and add a very classy feel to the room. Of course you can also get chairs that have a very classic look, with backs and armrests that are carefully crafted to look like an older chair.

The lifting capacity of these chairs varies by model. Some use dual motors and are capable of lifting more than six-hundred pounds, but most lift around three-hundred and fifty pounds. Choosing a chair that will match your weight requirements is important, and if you anticipate any weight growth, make certain you consider this when choosing a chair.

Lifting Lift Chairs

Filed under: lift chairs — liftchairs @ 1:53 pm

People who are over the age of 65 frequently leave full and active lives, but some things, like standing and sitting, can become more difficult with age. In some instances this is as a result of a mobility related problem such as arthritis, but it is also sometimes simply a case of poor balance. To help increase mobility and independence, a lift chair can be used to ensure that a person can safely stand and sit.

Lift chairs are most often found in the living room and are a type of recliner. They feature the reclining back and a footrest, much like a traditional recliner, but there are some notable differences. Most importantly is the fact that the base of the chair rises into the air to allow the seated individual to safely stand without assistance. They also are used to allow an individual sit in a controlled and non-dangerous manner. Another difference is that the footrest and backrest are controlled by remote control and so it is much easier to find a comfortable position and keep it, which is not the case with most traditional recliners.

Lift chairs come in many different sizes and shapes. Some are designed to look just like a regular non-lifting recliner, but others have a very modern look and feel. Some also have special features. These features can include heat and massage, special armrest compartments, removable armrests, which make transferring into or out of the seat easier, and many other special options.

Most lift chairs must be placed about 18 inches from the wall, but if space it at a premium, you can instead go with a space saver, which can be placed as close as 6 inches from the wall.

Lift Chairs in the Home

Filed under: lift chairs — liftchairs @ 2:45 pm

Standing up and sitting down is often more difficult for those of us who are over the age of 65. Commonly this is as a result of mobility problems like arthritis, which can make it difficult to bend your knees. As a result, many people find that they can not safely or reliably come to a standing position without assistance. Instead of relying on a nurse or paired caregiver, a lift chair is often prescribed.

Lift chairs are a type of recliner that can aid a person in standing or sitting and does not require that they rely on other people to use it. The base of the chair is outfitted with a very powerful lifting mechanism and this mechanism literally raises the chair into the air. When the chair is fully raised, the user is able to stand or sit in a very controlled manner.

There are many features and options available for a lift chair and many of them are purely comfort features. For instance there are many fabrics to choose from, including elegant leathers and synthetic leathers that are designed for improved breathability and also extra comfort. Many chairs also have an optional heat or massage kit built into them, which can work wonders on tired or sore muscles.

While many of these features are designed with comfort in mind, there are some basic features that you want to ensure your chair has. One of the most important involves the lifting mechanism. Many years ago lift chairs often used a spring lifting mechanism. These mechanisms are very dangerous and have been the cause of many injuries. A few companies still offer these chairs, so make certain you avoid companies that do. You will want to make certain that the chair uses an electric motor to move the chair.

Another feature that is important and available on most lift chairs is a battery backup. This is important, because you do not want to take the risk of being stranded in your chair if the power goes out. Most lift chairs manufactured by Golden Technologies and Pride Mobility include this feature.

A lift chair can be used to safely reduce the risk of falling or injuring yourself. People who can not stand easily or without assistance will greatly benefit from a lift chair.

Lift Chairs Advantages

Filed under: lift chairs — liftchairs @ 2:23 pm

If you are someone that can not stand easily or without assistance, then you might feel like you have to hire someone to help you sit or even sit only in circumstances when you know someone will be available to help you stand again. Standing and sitting might seem very difficult, but there is no reason it should if you own a lift chair.

A lift chair in many ways looks like any high-end recliner you might see, but they offer much improved functionality. A lift chair rises into the air to make it easier to stand and sit. These extremely comfortable lift recliners can, depending on model, support weights greater than 500 pounds and their seats come in several different sizes. Most support around 350 pounds and have only one electric motor, but those that support more than that are usually feature dual motors.

The fabrics available for these chairs varies and there are usually several different colors and designs available. Some are available with leather and others utilize synthetic fabrics which offer superior breathability and stain control, but are very similar to leather.

Lift chairs also come in several different levels of recline. Some lift chairs can recline to a position that is great for sleeping. These types of chairs are called 3 position chairs. In 3 position chairs the backrest and footrest operate together as one unit. Infinite position lift chairs allow the footrest and backrest to be operated separately and also recline to a near horizontal position. TV recline lift chairs can recline about 45 degrees and are also called 2 position lift chairs.

Those that have trouble standing and sitting greatly benefit from lift chairs.

Filed under: lift chairs — liftchairs @ 3:41 pm

ll670.jpgPride Mobility is a manufacturer of lift chairs and other mobility aids. They began custom building lift chairs over twenty years ago, and today are one of the most respected names in the mobility industry.

One of their most popular lift chairs is the Pride LL-670. The LL-670 is part Pride’s Specialty Collection, which is geared towards providing very elegant chairs that offer exceptional fabrics. The chairs of the Specialty Collection also have special features that set the chairs apart from others. This includes chairs that are wall huggers, have removable armrests, or, as in the case of the LL-670, have an available bed option.

The LL-670 is an infinite position lift chair. This means it can recline to a horizontal sleeping position and allows the footrest and backrest to be operated separately. It uses a very comfortable blown fiber pillow back and can support up to 375 pounds. It is designed for individuals who are between 5’5” and 6’. The LL-670 also has a battery backup, so you will never be left sitting, even if the power goes out.

One of the things that really sets the LL-670 apart from other lift chairs is the available bed option. If you opt for the bed option, a specially fitted removable mattress is included with the chair. The mattress can be quickly placed on the chair to make it a very comfortable place to sleep. It also helps to reduce the risk of sores and improve the overall comfort of the chair.
